Library Cards

Apply for your library card at the circulation desk.

Library cards are free to residents of Texas. Proof of a current Texas address must be shown with at least one of the following:

A valid Texas driver's license showing your current address.

A Texas Department of Public Safety Identification Card showing your current address.

A photo ID and a printed check or utility bill showing your current address.

Juvenile Library Cards are issued to children 17 years and under. An adult family member must sign the application and proof of current address must be shown (see above).

Out of State Cards are available with a $30.00 deposit.  These cards expire every six (6) weeks and can be renewed for up to three (3) months.  The deposit is refundable less any accrued fines or fees.

After Application for Your Card only three (3) library items may be checked out on the first use. Once you receive your card by mail, however, you may check out items within the limits listed below.

Renewals will be made for items only if no other library patron has placed the item on HOLD.  Some items cannot be renewed (see above). 

 

 
Automated Material Renewal:

Renew by phone or online.

To renew by phone, dial (361) 572-6660 and follow the teleprompts.  You will be asked to input your library card number.  With our automated system you can:

  • Review items on loan or overdue
  • Renew items on loan once with certain restrictions:  they must not be overdue; you must not have fines on your library account; and the item does not have a waiting  or hold list. 
  • 572-6661 no longer accepts inbound calls.

To renew online, go to My Account and follow the instructions to set up access to your library account online. 

 
Reserving Library Materials:

Bookdrop Locations:
  • On the Main Street side of the Library.
  • At Town Plaza on Airline.
  • At Victoria Mall on the Hallettsville Highway (at the end by Sears).
  • Inside the Victoria Public Library on both sides of the Circulation Desk.
 
Frequently Asked Questions:
  • Do you have a photocopy machine? Yes.   Photocopies cost 10¢ each.
  • Do you have a public fax machine, scanner or typewriter?  Not at this time.
  • How many items can you check out at one time?   It varies.  See the section on Lending Policies.
  • How much are late fines per day?  10¢ per day per item.
  • Do you have public Internet access?  Yes.   Printing from the Internet costs 10¢ per copy for Black and White copies and 25¢ per copy for Color copies.
  • What do I do if I lost an item that I checked out?  Contact the Circulation Desk for the replacement cost, processing fees and overdue fines, if applicable.
  • Why doesn't the automated system answer when I dial 572-6661 to renew by phone? This number is used for outbound calls from our automated system.  Dial 572-6660, our inbound number for the automated system, to renew by phone.
