The members of Victoria’s City Council, including the mayor, are supporting the University of Houston-Victoria’s scholarship fund through personal donations of $100 each.

The University of Houston-Victoria invited members of the City Council and the Victoria County Commissioners Court to donate to the university’s general scholarship fund. The invitation comes as UHV is celebrating its 50th anniversary and the City is celebrating its bicentennial.

“UHV is an excellent community partner and a critical component of the future success of Victoria,” said Mayor Jeff Bauknight. “A thriving university benefits our economy and helps to raise our profile as a destination for high-quality, affordable education. We are proud to help UHV provide financial assistance to students who want to pursue an education here in Victoria, and we look forward to continuing our partnership with the university during our bicentennial year and beyond.”

Another recent example of collaboration between the City and UHV is the Ben Wilson Corridor Improvement Project, which is expected to finish in February. The project is managed by the City and funded with state bonds provided by UHV.

“UHV is grateful for the support of our alumni and donors every day,” said UHV Vice President of Advancement & External Relations Amber W. Countis. “As a regional public institution, the partnership with the city and community is vital to our long-term success. We appreciate the many opportunities to collaborate and partner with our city leaders and to strengthen the relationship between UHV and our community. As both UHV and Victoria celebrate important milestones, we are reminded about how much we have achieved together and look forward to all that is to come. Many thanks to the City Council for supporting Jaguar students!”
