PHOTO: George Gamez is sworn in as chief of the Victoria Fire Department by City Secretary April Hilbrich on Feb. 5 during a ceremony at the Victoria Community Center. The event was attended by City of Victoria leadership, local first responders, government officials, family and friends. Gamez’s hiring was first announced Jan. 2. Prior to joining the Victoria Fire Department, Gamez served with Dallas Fire-Rescue since 1993, serving 16 years in the field and 14 years as part of the leadership team in diverse administration roles. During his career in the field, he held the ranks of driver, lieutenant and captain. He was promoted to the rank of deputy chief in 2012, managing EMS, Communications and Special Operations.
