[ARCHIVED] Victoria Day of Caring invites residents to join together for citywide service

As a part of the bicentennial weekend, the Victoria community is gearing up for a day filled with unity and service during the Victoria Day of Caring event 8-10 a.m. on Saturday, April 13. This event invites residents and visitors to participate in acts of service across the city.

Residents can visit www.victoriatx200.com to sign up. Volunteers can choose from many different opportunities hosted by organizations across Victoria, such as packing food boxes at the Food Bank of the Golden Crescent, pressure washing at Mid-Coast Family Services, assisting with painting and landscaping at The Texas Zoo and more.

Volunteers will be provided with Victoria Day of Caring T-shirts for their service. T-shirts will be handed out at the Victoria Public Library during the VPL Jams event 6-8 p.m. April 11 or at project sites on the day of the event.

After completing their chosen projects, volunteers will gather at De Leon Plaza for a group photo at 12 p.m. Volunteers are invited to stick around for the Home of the Six Flags Market in downtown Victoria, followed by the De Leon Statue Dedication and Plaza Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony.

All volunteers wearing the official T-shirt will be treated to a complimentary food item from any one of the designated food trucks at the Home of the Six Flags Market.

The Victoria Day of Caring is made possible through the collaboration of various organizations, with special thanks to JustServe for hosting volunteer signups and to the United Way of the Crossroads and the University of Houston-Victoria for their partnership.
