Parents and caregivers can learn how to safely secure their children in a moving vehicle by joining the Municipal Court in the front Target parking lot on Friday, April 25, 2025 at 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.

More than three out of four car seats are installed incorrectly, which can lead to serious injury and even death in a car crash.

“This program is a perfect way to learn how to avoid making those mistakes, and ensure the safety of each and every child,” said Municipal Court Administrator Tiffany Totah. “We want to help parents and caregivers protect their children.”

Participants are encouraged to bring their child to practice properly installing the car seat and correctly restraining the child. Inspectors from the Victoria Police Department and court are attending to provide child safety seat inspections and teach caregivers about proper car seat use.

To help the staff prepare for this event, participants are encouraged to register in advance. The event is free for residents that wish to participate, and those who are unable to attend can schedule an appointment online for a different time and date. To register for an appointment, visit www.victoriatx.gov/carseat.

The funding for the car seat inspections comes from the child safety fee that is assessed when residents register their vehicles in Victoria County, which must be used for child safety and welfare services as clarified by state law.
