Residents will be able to cast their lines once again at the Riverside Park duck pond starting May 25.

The City began stocking the pond in October 2023 with perch fingerlings and feeder fish, and young catfish were added earlier this year. The pond has been closed to fishing since Feb. 26 to give the fish time to grow and spawn, allowing the fish population to become established.

The Texas Parks & Wildlife Department has examined the pond and determined that the fish population is at a sustainable level for fishing. Because of this, the City has decided to allow fishing to resume at the duck pond.

Regulations for duck pond fishing

Fishing at the duck pond is governed by TPWD regulations for community fishing lakes. Under these regulations, anglers may keep no more than five fish per day.

A fishing license is required for all anglers 17 or older and for adults accompanying an angler under 17.

Fishing regulations are enforced by the Texas Game Wardens. To report a violation, call 800-792-GAME (4263).

Residents can help ensure a strong fish population in the future by following the catch limit and by releasing smaller fish. Residents should only keep fish that they intend to use.
