The Victoria Fire Department recently conducted a Fire Prevention Poster Contest at local and area schools in observance of National Fire Prevention Week. City and County-Wide First-place winners of the poster contest were honored and recognized at an awards ceremony held on Friday, October 20, 2023, at the Victoria Fire Department Training Center.

The Victoria Fire Department Fire Marshal’s Division is recognizing the creativity of local students who are using their artistic skills to raise awareness about fire safety in the kitchen.

The fire department hosted its annual poster contest in honor of Fire Prevention Week, inviting students to create posters based on this year’s theme: “Cooking safety starts with YOU. Pay attention to fire prevention.”

The winners at each grade level are as follows:

1st grade: Luke Temple, Nursery Elementary School

2nd grade: McKenzie Heller, Trinity Episcopal School

3rd grade: John Alebis, Trinity Episcopal School

4th grade: Luke Ortiz, Dudley Elementary School

5th grade: Shealyn Carver, Mission Valley Elementary School
